Valuations are mid-range estimates net of taxes and carrier charges on reward bookings; actual value depends on the route, cabin and availability. Bank currency transfer ratios (Amex 2:1, CommBank 2:1 to Velocity) reflect current published rates — always confirm before transferring, transfers are one-way.

How the values are estimated

Each redemption has a value in cents per point, based on typical prices and after taxes and carrier charges on reward bookings. For bank programs such as Amex Membership Rewards and CommBank Awards, the value already includes the transfer ratio to the airline or hotel program.

These are mid-range estimates. A reward seat on a route with expensive cash fares is worth more; the same seat in a sale is worth less. If you have your own valuation, enter it as a custom cents-per-point figure.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a frequent flyer point worth?

It depends entirely on how you use it. The same Velocity or Qantas point can be worth around half a cent on gift cards and two cents or more on a business class reward seat. The calculator shows the spread for your balance.

What is the best way to use credit card points?

For most programs, premium cabin reward flights give the highest value per point, followed by economy reward seats and upgrades. Gift cards, merchandise and statement credits are the lowest value, though they are the easiest to use.

Should I transfer bank points to an airline?

Only when you have a specific redemption in mind. Transfers to airline programs are one-way, and airline points can be devalued or expire under program rules. Leaving points in the bank program keeps your options open until you book.

Is a points credit card worth it?

Compare the annual fee with the realistic value of the points you'll earn at the redemption you actually use, plus any perks you'd genuinely use. If you carry a balance, interest will almost always outweigh the points.
